Two (2) scarce early original vintage stereoview photographs of the Forty Steps and Sprouting Cave in Newport Rhode Island photographed by notable photographer JOSHUA A. WILLIAMS.
Joshua Williams was the most important photographer working in Newport, Rhode Island from about 1850 until 1885.
Williams’ images defined Newport as it emerged from a period of post-Revolutionary war slumber to become “Queen of Resorts.” He captured these physical changes to Newport, while retaining nostalgia for the city’s colonial past.
These are vintage photographs and not copies or reproductions.
Stereoview photographs measure 3 1/4 x 6 3/4 inches. Forty Steps is in excellent condition with no bends, tears, or creases and the images are very sharp and have strong tones with good contrast and clarity. Sprouting Cave is in very good condition with a bend between images (see scans).
