1953 Bowman #19 Al Dark EX+/NM New York Giants Shortstop. Dark was born January 7, 1922 in Comanche, Oklahoma. He made his Major League playing debut on July 14, 1946 for the Boston Braves. He spent the 1947 season in AAA ball with Milwaukee. Back with the Braves in 1948, he was named the National League Rookie of the year. The following season, the Braves traded him to the New York Giants where he became a 3X All Star. After 7 years in New York, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals on June 14, 1956 in a 10 player deal. He spent most of the 1958 and all of the 1959 season with the Chicago Cubs. With his playing career winding down, he split his last season between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Milwaukee Braves. He made his final "Big League" playing appearance on October 2, 1960 as a Brave. In 1961, he began his long-time managerial career with the San Francisco Giants. For 17 years, he managed on and off with 5 different Major League teams including the Giants, the Kansas City Athletics, the Cleveland Indians, the Oakland Athletics and the San Diego Padres.
