Up for sale is an exquisite, paper-thin antique Japanese eggshell porcelain teacup dating to the historic Meiji Period (1868-1912). This museum-quality export piece features beautifully detailed, hand-painted underglaze cobalt blue panels depicting a serene landscape of Mount Fuji overlooking a lakeside village. The scenic cartouches are elegantly framed by an intricate, vibrant iron-red and heavy gold gilt scrollwork border.


The underside of the base is hand-signed with the authentic 6-character underglaze blue kanji mark: 大日本 岩田造 (Dai Nippon Iwata Zo), translating to "Great Japan, Made by Iwata."


Crafted from extraordinarily delicate, lightweight eggshell porcelain, this cup is a phenomenal, genuine piece of late 19th / early 20th-century Japanese ceramic history. Perfect for serious porcelain collectors or as a showcase cabinet display piece.
