Description:

Scarce real photo postcard depicting a remarkable St. Louis disaster scene during the severe winter of 1917. The image shows a multi-story commercial building completely encased in ice after firefighting efforts combined with sub-freezing temperatures created massive icicle formations covering the structure.

The photograph captures both the destructive effects of fire and the extraordinary weather conditions that transformed the damaged building into a frozen landmark. Pedestrians walking nearby provide scale for the immense ice accumulations hanging from windows, balconies, and exterior walls.

Real photo postcards documenting fires, disasters, severe weather, and urban events remain highly sought after by collectors due to their historical significance and often unique photographic content.

An excellent addition for collectors of St. Louis history, disaster photography, fire memorabilia, weather history, RPPCs, and early 20th-century Americana.
