Fascinating two-way letter dated 1815 resolving a long-running dispute between artist Thomas Phillips, and likely a second, lesser-known artist. The first part of the letter is written by someone (presumably an artist) who I can't identify. His name appears to be William Thomas, and there is a lesser-known early 19th century artist by that name who exhibited at the Royal Academy, and is someone Phillips would likely have known. Thomas writes that he would like to put their disagreement behind them, and Phillips replies on the same paper with a gracious acceptance. It is fascinating to read. Phillips was involved in a very public artistic controversy surrounding the painter Benjamin Robert Haydon, so this dispute is not out of character. 8" x 10", two damaged areas that affect a bit of the writing, else Very Good condition.
