This 130-year-old box is in very good antique condition. The wood is sturdy with a deep, rich color. It has high-quality finger-jointed (box joint) corners. The interior paper label is remarkably well-preserved with very little foxing or fading. Please see photos for a close-up look at the beautiful aged texture of the lid. Ot still has the original 9-compartment interior grid, perfectly sized for wooden thread reels. The original brass hinges are good working order. There is a small crack under the right hinge - see photos.
Back of the box - There is a light, handwritten notation in the bottom corner (33 /10), likely an original shopkeeper’s inventory or price mark from the late1800s. While there is minor localized tea-staining/foxing consistent with a 130-year-old item, the typography remains bold, crisp, and completely legible.
