Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.

You are looking at one of Shure Brothers most unique, rugged and affordable model mics to come out of the 1950's era.

This is the 710A "Rex" model crystal microphone with an all metal painted body, lower adapter and period Electro Voice 423A model stand in which to display.

Pic # 2 is from an old Shure data sheet showing this very mic and it's basic characteristics.

This microphone that was manufactured in Evanston, ILL sometime between the late 1950's and eventually was discontinued in the early to mid 1960's. The Shure 710A came with the omni-directional crystal element while the 510 model came with a controlled magnetic element. These crystal models didn't hold up well with age as the crystal element was prone to degrading from heat, cold humidity and vibration. This example has been tested and no longer works. It should be used for display, prop or display purposes only. Again, tested and non-working.

The Shure 710A was used for general broadcasting and dispatching purposes.

The finish shows very typical wear as seen in the pictures provided and slightly above average in looks for a mic of this age. There are no engravings, dents or fractures but you'll notice there are scuff marks, scratches and small paint chips in the original burgundy finish. The original gold colored screen is free of any rips, holes or stains. The Shure label and insignia look excellent. The mic comes with the lower adapter that allows you to screw this mic onto any stand you have though one is provided already. There is a short original 7 inch cloth cable with period female Cannon 5 pin XLR end connector. This Shure 710A mic is an easy 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 physically speaking.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a period 1950's Electro Voice 423A model. It's an aluminum design with a sating chrome plate and compliments the mic nicely. A very stable platform for this 710A. The stand itself is appx 5 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide. With the mic on top it's appx 9 inches tall.

The satin chrome riser looks very nice and gives the mic a bit of height to work with.

The base shows a bit more wear in the form of lite pitting and some small dings and scratches but it has a nice luster still. The 3 original pads are still on the bottom and work great.

 The stand is a 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 as well.

The mic with stand is going to look very nice anywhere it's display in the house, office or studio.

As with all my vintage microphones...
