Herbert Sigüenza is an actor, writer, visual artist, and performer born in San Francisco, California in 1959. He spent part of his childhood in El Salvador with his family before moving back to California as a teenager due to the civil unrest taking place in El Salvador at the time. 

Sigüenza attended the California College of Arts and received a BFA in printmaking. Afterward, he was the art director at La Raza Silkscreen Center for ten years, creating political posters for community events.
