The origin of this style and, of course, of this name is due to the great artist Raffaello Sanzio (1483-1520) and his master Pietro Vannucci, known as "The Perugino" (1448-1523). Raffaello used to decorate the borders of his paintings with drawings of dragons and symbolic animals. Artisans of the late 1500 period copied these decorations and adapted them to their necessities, giving birth to one of the most known "Derutese" pattern.

This SBERNA portrait is inspired by Italian Renaissance works by artists such as Raphael, Perugino and Pinturicchio, who created many masterpieces for churches and palazzos in the Italian cities of greatest prestige.

Deruta hand painted DECORATIVE PLATE CHARGER made in Italy .

The center of the piece features a portrait of Renaissance Lady ( Silvia / Selena ) looking to the right.

“Dipinto a mano” is Italian for “painted by hand”.
