Super fine cast large Japanese Meiji Period (1868–1912) bronze incense burner, or koro, with lid, standing on four feet and displayed on its original wooden base. Signed by the artist. Please see photos for details.

This impressive Tokyo School bronze koro features exceptional detail and fine workmanship throughout. The body has pierced wave-shaped decorations, paradise bird-form handles, and a finely modeled shishi holding a ball on the lid.

The front decorative panel depicts paradise birds, while the opposite side features a dragon, both executed in low relief. The legs are decorated with sculptural beast-head designs. The koro also retains its inner cylinder for incense.

The bronze has an attractive light-brown to brown patina, with no loss of patina. The original wooden base also has a fine original patina.

Excellent condition, with no dents, repairs, losses, or restorations.
