STUNNING Herbert Halate ZUNI Bear Fetish, Hand
Carved from Black Jet with Turquoise Medicine Bale and Eyes, circa 1980s to 1990s.
This fine Native American art
piece is signed HH - Herbert Halate - on the foot Herbert Halate is
known for highly polished abstract style. The medicine bundle is an
arrowhead shaped piece of turquoise tied in place with horse hair. Herb
Halate's work is widely collected and is featured on page 21 of
"Spirit in the Stone," by Mark Bahti, 1999, and in Dr Harold
Finkelstein's book, Zuni Fetish Carvings, 1994. Plate #50 on page 19 is a
black jet bear with turquoise medicine bale, much like the one offered
here.
