Reluctantly selling my Bang & Olufsen Beolab Penta Mk3 speakers. I just don't have room for them so have replaced them with something much smaller.
These were my main speakers until recently, used with my Beosound 9000 HiFi and Beovision 11 TV. They are the latest model made (Mk3) with the improved displays. They include a pair of original B&O 5 metre Mk2 Powerlink cables for connection to your B&O HiFi or TV. Unlike the later Mk3 cables, the Mk2 cables carry the data signal that allows info from your B&O AV setup to be displayed on the speaker. The original user manual is also included.
These are active speakers each with a built in 320m 8ohm amplifier.
They were made to work with B&O systems via the DIN Powerlink cables, but you can also connect them to older B&O systems (such as Beomaster 5000 or Beocenter 9000) using 4 pin speaker link cables - which are not included.
If you don't have a B&O AV system, they also have RCA inputs, but note that the displays won't do anything if you connect them that way.
Condition:
- The mid-range drivers (4 on each speaker) have been professionally and delicately re-foamed about 2 years ago. They were then 'run-in' over time by playing at slowly increasing volume over a few days.
- On of the mid-range drivers has the dome pushed in, but this does not appear to affect the sound.
- The fabric frets are in good condition with no holes.
- The metal casing has the odd mark, but nothing major - I tried to photograph them but the mirrored surface makes it difficult to see. One of the speakers has a shallow indent on the lower metal panel, the other has one on the upper metal panel.
- On one of the speakers, the top panel if lifted away a bit (but could be fixed back in place, no doubt).
- The pentagonal bases have suffered the common problem that all of these Penta speakers suffer - under the smoked plastic cover, the glue below the mirrored surface has come away in placed and caused visible marks, which can be seen on the photographs.
- One of the clips that holds the front doors in place did come loose and was repaired - a simple repair with electrical tape inside, but it worked, and now the door clips into place as it should. I mention it just in case it should ever come loose again, you'll know what it is.
Performance:
- They sound, in my opinion, amazing to this day. They can be very loud without distortion.
- Occasionally a click can be heard from either speaker. I don't know what that is but it's not very loud and it only happens very occasionally. Something to do with the protection circuit that they have, probably.
- The displays are fully working and still nice and bright.
- The included Powerlink cables are original B&O, and carry a great signal.
These are collection only because of the weight and size - I am near Liverpool. They are 5ft5in tall and weigh about 25kg each, so if you want to collect, make sure you've got sufficient space in your vehicle!
If you buy, I will connect them up and demonstrate them for you before collection. If you decide you don't like them enough, I'll just refund you. You can see I have an excellent seller rating and can be trusted. Any questions at all, just ask..
