According to Irish law, the precious metals are subject to gold, silver and platinum before using a purity test by the Assay Office in the Dublin Castle before they are released for sale. This happens using three Hallmarks (punching):
- The symbol of the Hibernia (queen on throne), which Ireland identifies as a place of origin.
- The authenticity of the sterling silver is confirmed by a crowned harp.
- an annually changing letter that can be used to determine when the silver was released.
The latter puncture offers an excellent way to determine the year of manufacture of your Peterson pipe.
