*** PLEASE FULLY READ THE BELOW-LISTED DESCRIPTION PRIOR TO MAKING OFFER TO PURCHASE THIS ROBOT***
I have owned this HORIKAWA Attacking Martian Robot for over 25 years. It has been kept stored / displayed in a glass cabinet within a smoke-free and climate-controlled home. When I purchased this robot, I paid a premium due to its condition (never played with), but the box did show signs of wear and from improper previous storage (see pictures). The robot operated perfectly (walked forward, arms moved, chest doors opened to display dual machine guns flashing red and popping noises to simulate rapid firing, guns stopped firing, chest doors closed and he continued moving forward) when I first purchased it.
***Fast forward to this week.... I removed the robot from the storage / display case, put two (2) D size batteries into its compartment, and turned it on. It started to move (walk) forward, stopped (as it should) for its chest doors to swing open and the machine guns started firing (and firing, and firing, and firing) w/o stopping as it should. I had to turn it off and back on again, but the chest doors would not close as they should. I had to manually retract the guns and close the doors to get them properly close. I tried to turn the robot on again, but all it did was make a running noise and I could see that the machine guns were illuminating but not opening the doors or moving. That was it. When I filmed the attached video, I turned him on and he moved forward slightly and the chest doors opened, but again, would not stop firing until I turned him off and had to close the chest doors myself. Not too sure what the issue is. I do know that a lot of these vintage mechanical / battery operated toys can have the original lubricant on their internal gears dry up and cause them to malfunction / stop working. The internal motor still runs but is not engaging other internal components as it should.
PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU ARE BUYING A VINTAGE TOY THAT IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND WILL NEED REPAIR / SERVICE BY SOMEONE WHO IS CAPABLE OF WORKING ON THESE TYPES OF TOYS. IT IS BEING SOLD AS A TOY IN NEED OF REPAIR.
Although the robot is not functioning properly, it would still look great as a display item with other robots or similar toys. The exterior body of the robot is in near perfect condition, with no damage, scratches or paint loss. This robot measures 11.25" tall and 6" across.
