This vintage Pottery Vase in the style of Axel Salto's "The Budding" is a stunning piece of Mid-Century Modern decor. Hand-molded from clay with a high glossy finish, this art pottery vase features a textured abstract pattern that creates a 3D effect. Salto’s works were natural and organic.
Artist: Axel Salto (1889–1961), a prominent Danish ceramic artist known for organic, naturalistic forms. Style: The vase is modeled in the "sprouting" or "budding" style, designed to resemble a living organism growing or budding.
Glaze: These works often feature specialized glazes, such as the "Sung" glaze or "Solfatara" glaze, which create textured, earthy colors.
Manufacturer: The pieces were produced by the Royal Copenhagen porcelain factory in Denmark.
Standing at 15 inches tall with a base length of 4.5 inches, this decorative vase weighs an impressive 9 pounds and 13 ounces, making it a substantial and eye-catching addition to any home or studio. The brown glaze with an undertone of green and ochre and its unique design make this piece a standout piece from the 1960s era.
Issues:
A few of the spikes have been broken and poorly repaired (not by me) and one is missing. The glaze is crazed in certain areas indicating some age.
I count five poorly repaired spikes, one missing and a chip on the end of one. The piece is unmarked. Please see all pictures. They don’t do the piece justice. It is quite impressive.
