This is a Buy-It-Now sale for a replacement Integrated Circuit, for the Acorn BBC Model B and Master 128, Acorn ADFS 1.33 and 1.53.
For using Floppy disks (or a GOTEK with ADFS images), ADFS is for use only with the Acorn 1770 Disk System interfaces, it does not work with the earlier 8271 disk system. This includes the genuine Acorn version, as well as my own replacement which is fully compatible. Other modern replacements may also work, but you'd need to check with their respective manufacturer.
The ADFSs in this ROM are patched for IDE operation, as opposed to SCSI. If you don't have an IDE type Hard Drive, then this will be irrelevant, as they work the same as the original ADFS 1.30.
You only need this on a Master 128 if you are using an IDE type Hard Drive, or one of my Compact flash type drives, as the Master MOS has ADFS 1.50 built in, which is for use with SCSI devices.
ADFS is also required if you have an 80186 CoProcessor, or the Raspberry Pi CoPro, and want to use the 80286 core for DOS.
Lastly, ADFS will use up extra memory on a Model B and push PAGE up to &1F00 when used with a DFS. Bear this in mind when loading games and large software files on a Model B, as they might run out of memory. This doesn't occur on a Master 128 as it has dedicated workspace memory.
The item photo is a sample of the IC you will receive. It will be a newly programmed 27256 ROM. On a Model B, this ROM will default to use ADFS 1.33 in an unmodified socket. On a Master 128 you will need to use it in one of the 4-7 ROM sockets, and *UNPLUG ADFS 1.33, as well as the built in ADFS 1.50. Item supplied is used and tested.
