Fancy Jasper


This listing is for a rough slab of Fancy Jasper or Bloodstone Heliotrope from India. This is an older piece obtained from a lapidary collector, date unknown. Bloodstone is a darker green chalcedony quartz with distinctive red "blood" spots of iron oxide. Fancy Jasper is bloodstone that falls outside of the typical red green colors. It has a MOHS hardness of 6.5-7 which makes it a durable material, and will take a nice polish. 

This is a rare old variety of Fancy Jasper with unusual colors.  At the time of purchase, the color was described as "tea-berry pinks and blues." (I honestly have no clue what color tea-berry pink is!) To me, the colors are shades of pinks, mauve, white, brownish yellow and blue green.  There is a faint orbing seen in the pattern, most predominately seen in the blue section.  This piece has several druzy botryoidal vugs.  Known flaw highlighted - fracture in corner.  This is a very cool old stock slab with unusual colors that will make some fantastic cabochons.
