GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a beautiful archaic style Fang-hu porcelain Arrow Vase. The Fanghu vase is a square or rectangular shaped vase, characterized by a tapering body and a distinctive foot. This beautiful, archaistic vase was made using a technique known for its distinguishing feature of 'iron-wire' deliberate cracks in the glaze. It was produced under the Ming and Qing dynasties as an imitation of the “crackle” celadon wares from the imperial (ge) kilns of the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The cracks in the glaze result from differences in the composition and the coefficients of expansion of the body and the glaze. This fine example measures 4.25 inches in width by 4.25 inches in depth by 8.75 inches in height (10.7 cm by 10.7 cm by 22.2 cm). The bottom shows a Daguan-era 9 character reference mark. It is in very good condition, including rubbing, edge wear and tiny glaze imperfections, showing wear consistent with a dating to the late 20th century. A superb example of a very distinctive style of Chinese porcelain, it would make a fine collector’s piece and is guaranteed authentic.
