This species of hare, native to various regions in Europe and western Asia, is skillfully depicted in its natural habitat. Their behavior, particularly during spring, becomes quite intriguing as they engage in daylight chases and what's famously known as "boxing" – a behavior often initiated by females to test the determination of potential mates.

Nocturnal and crepuscular by nature, hares venture out for foraging between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. During daylight hours, they take refuge in depressions called "forms," with their backs partially exposed. Their agility is awe-inspiring, capable of reaching speeds up to 35 mph in a straight line, and their evasive tactics include rapid changes in direction, diving into streams, and even swimming when necessary.
