Circa 1800 Pastel Portrait with Napoleonic Period Hair Style

This is an early 19th century pastel portrait of a man, Napoleonic Period. The sight measures 13 x 16 1/4". The painting is on its original stretcher. It has been placed in a modern, custom-made frame with glass. Spacers were used so the painting does not touch the glass. This was all done by a previous owner. In this frame, he measures 15 1/2 x 18 1/2".  So, it is not small nor large. It could hang anywhere.

The painting is on parchment. As with canvas painting, it is not laid down but stretched. The sitter is very well painted. He wears a dark blue tunic. The color on the photos is close to how it appears in person. He is painted in the best manner. There is a very small tear above and to the right of the sitter's head, almost under frame on the border. The backside has dustcover of plain cardboard using staples.

If you have been searching for a genuine, period pastel portrait from circa 1800, this is a very fine portrait with excellent presence.
