Trevor Wright Vanwall VW11 1960 F1 Car Handmade & Painted White Metal Model

Rare, limited run, handmade model of the 1960 Vanwall (chassis VW11) driven by Tony Brooks. Cast in white metal in approx 1:43 scale as part of Trevor Wright (TW) models “Brands Hatch” collection Collection and now out of production.

8.5cm long painted and assembled white metal model. Painted in gloss dark British Racing Green with white triangle on the nose and hand painted Vanwall script on the engine cover, grey side exit exhaust. There is a cast metal driver painted white with white helmet, silver and black goggles and flesh coloured face with a solid brown steering wheel. The model rolls on cast metal wheels painted black with ridged rubber tyres. The base of the model is body-colour with an embossed “B” logo.

Vanwall was a British motor racing team and racing car constructor that was active in Formula One during the 1950s. Founded by Tony Vandervell, the Vanwall name was derived by combining the name of the team owner with that of his Thinwall bearings produced at the Vandervell Products factory at Acton, London. Originally entering modified Ferraris in non-championship races, Vanwall constructed their first cars to race in the 1954 Formula One season. The team achieved their first race win in the 1957 British Grand Prix, with Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks sharing a VW 5, earning the team the distinction of constructing the first British-built car to win a World Championship race. Vanwall won the inaugural Constructors' Championship in Formula One in 1958, in the process allowing Moss and Brooks to finish second and third in the Drivers' Championship standings, each winning three races for Vanwall. Vandervell's failing health meant 1958 would be the last full season; the squad ran cars in a handful of races in the following years, but finished racing in 1961.

VW11

As chassis VW5, this was one of the new cars built by the Vanwall for the 1957 season. That year, Stirling Moss drove it to two wins, while in 1958 Tony Brooks scored two wins in VW5 and Stirling Moss also added a further victory to this car's tally. For the 1959 season, it was further upgraded and renumbered VW11. In this guise it was raced into the 1960 season by Tony Brooks. Along with all other cars that remained in the Vandervell stable, it was eventually sold to Tom Wheatcroft for the Donington Grand Prix Collection. It was then sold to the United States to join what is today known as the Revs Institute collection. The car still retains its original but very fragile magnesium bodywork. When used in anger, it is usually fitted with an identical aluminium body to preserve the original. Maintained to full running order, it has been regularly raced and demonstrated by the likes of Brian Redman.
