DESCRIPTION: The unique set of 8 salad plates was produced with beautiful pink & blue trumpet orchids & green leaves. There are light green and blue ghost leaves to add depth to the design. The plates' rims are smooth and untrimmed. This makes a beautiful display set or can be used daily.
CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks & no wear to the colors.
DIMENSIONS: The round plates have a diameter of 7 7/8" with a height of 15/16".
HISTORY/MARKS: Beginning in about 1855, the Lanternier family decorated and exported porcelain from Limoges. In the mid-1880’s in Limoges, Frederic Lanternier began producing porcelain white ware. The Lanternier white ware marks are often seen with other company’s decorating marks. From about 1890-1891, the Lanternier marks reflect the son’s name, Alfred. The green underglaze manufacturer's mark used on this item is identified by Mary Frank Gaston’s Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition, as an unidentified Limoges manufacturer’s underglaze mark #6 used 1891+. The red overglaze decorator's mark #1 is also identified by Gaston as A. Lanternier & Co. (Alfred Lanternier) as used in the 1890's. So the circa for this plate set is 1890's.
