"Professors Kennedy and Pingree have "analyzed all that is presently available of a major work ("On Conjunctions, Religions, and Peoples"), by an eighth-century Jewish Astrologer known in medieval Europe as Messahala. Their study is a significant contribution to an understanding of the origin and transmission of astrological doctrine. This work by Messahala has not survived intact but much ot it "lies embedded in another astrological work written by a Christian astrologer, entitled The Hibinta which appeared about a century and a half after Messhala's work.
This work by Messhala "reflect[s] his belief that important religious and political changes are indicated by actual astronomical events -- series of conjunctions between the planets Saturn and Jupiter. Predictions are mady by casting the horoscope for the instant of the vernal equinox of the year in which a special such conjunction occurs..." Very Good Plus in Good Plus Dustjacket.
