William Seyers (1854-1941). From the introduction:
"The colossal understatement that begins Seyers' recollections - I have a good memory of things that happened in my early boyhood' - at once introduces the reader to the laconic style of his narrative. It soon becomes apparent, however, that what is taking place is nothing less than a minutely-detailed re-creation of the Bangor of the era 1860 - 1890, a feat of memory so wide-ranging that it is not, perhaps, too fanciful to be reminded of James Joyce's hope for Ulysses' - that the Dublin of his day could be rebuilt from its pages.
