Description: Hardcover. 16mo. 6 1/4 in., x 4 1/4 in. Folding map in stiff brown boards with copper-gilt lettering to front, housing a large (32 in. x 28 in.) map, first published in 1864 by the A.L. Bancroft & Company in San Francisco, a publisher whom Wheat (Mapping The Transmississippi West) describes as "the greatest map publisher of the Pacific Coast". Some recent restoration to binding. Two small splits along central fold only, 1 in and 1/2 in., respectively. Elsewise, lovely condition. An American rarity. Very Good (Book and Map Both).
