Illustrated with eighty-seven full-page engravings, eleven of which are colored, twenty woodcuts, two fold-out charts, and three maps, two of which fold-out, were removed from the binding, and are housed in a newer manilla envelope pasted to rear pastedown. One fold-out map is handcolored. Rebound in dark half calf over textured tawny paper boards. 1/4 in. closed tear to leather at bottom of spine. Clear tape encircles the front free endpaper. Occasional light spotting; age-toning to pages.

Large colored fold-out map (22.25 in. x 23.25 in.) entitiled "Map Illustrating the General Geological Features of the Country West of the MIssissippi" has several tape repairs to the back and a 1 in. closed tear on the fold. Light tanning at folds.

Large fold-out map (22.5 in. x 29 in.) entitiled "Map of the United States and Their Territories Between the Mississippi and the Pacific Ocean" has two tape repairs (10 in. and 1 in.) to back. Light tanning at folds.
