Gilt title on burgundy label, and gilt bandlines, to spine. Front cover detached but present. Rubbing to extremities with bottom corners just showing. Lacking the folding map and plate. Old bookplate of Wibraham Library, Wesleyan Academy, to front pastedown. Light pencil-marks to front free endpaper. Portion of rear free endpaper torn off. Uniformly browned throughout. Spine is tight. Fair.

This is not a translation, as we understand the term now. Rather, it is a close retelling or paraphrasing of Denon's work in which Denon is referred to as M. Denon instead of 'I'. In this sense then, it is a derivitive work. The format permits the English writer to insert his own spin on the description of interactions between the French and the Arabs.

Denon's Travels in Upper and Lopwer Egypt (without the translator's editing) was also published in 1803 in London and New York.
