Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
If you're a singer or drummer looking for something special with excellent sound quality and an old school style and flair then you might want to consider this classic Shure microphone. It's the 1970's era 545 model that could be used for a variety of purposes and it comes with the short cable, mic pouch and Shure mic clip / shock mount shown.
This 545 is the O.G in which all other 545 series mics derived.
Pic # 2 is from an old 1970's era catalog showing this very model along with the other 545 variants being sold at that particular time.
It should be noted that this mic is Low impedance. The mic has a very warm, smooth tone with plenty of bass which is perfect for singing and broadcasting as it was designed. An excellent snare mic as well. It sounds as good as the day it was sold.
Pic # 3 shows Led Zeppelin using these very model mics while performing Whole Lot of Love live in concert. The 545 and 545S model were seen at most of their live performances as the 545 series mic was one of the best that money could buy. They eventually began using the Shure 548 series mic as the years progressed which was an even better version of the 545.
Pic # 4 shows a young Eric Clapton using a 545 while performing live.
It should be noted right away that while the mic functions perfectly...there is some damage to the top plastic portion of the cartridge. it appears as though the mic was dropped at some point in time. I had a couple small piece of plastic come lose when I was going over the mic that I had to glue back into place. The damage is purely cosmetic and in no way affects the mic. This is why the mic is priced cheap. Otherwise I'd be asking almost $100.00 more for it. It's a great bargain due to that cosmetic wear.
This is the very early 1st gen model with the screw on type cable that was introduced around 1960 and they were an immediate success. These mics were phased out in the mid to late 1970's and sold only with the XLR attachment from there out as the 545SD model.
This is a very decent example of a 545 despite the cosmetic wear.
The satin chrome handle shows virtually no wear and has a beautiful luster. The black plastic cartridge has just those small fractures. The Shure label is perfectly legible as well and the front screen is free of odors, tarnish or dents.
Mic is 100% solid. No loose parts. The foam inner pop filter is new and in excellent shape. This greatly helps reduce the unwanted "pops" you get from breathing or singing to close to the mic. The original foam is usually gone at this point or falling apart. You'll need to replace this foam if you want a good sounding mic. Just make sure you do that with any other 545 you buy from any other seller.
Again, the Shure Brothers 545 model dynamic cardioid microphone has uber strong output and has excellent uni-directional characteristics.
The mic clip is an American made early A55M model that fits the mic perfectly and has a good grip providing plenty of tension. The A55M was made for many years and was great for use as a shock mount reducing vibration and unwanted feedback. The inner rubber donut is soft and in perfect condition. It's in great condition with almost no lite wear. It will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have.
There is a short 4 pin to XLR cable provided to operate the mic. Cable is soft, pliable and I built it myself. Simply leave the short cable on the mic at all times and only attach any longer XLR cable of choice as an extension when needed. The short cable takes up almost no room at all and will last for 50 years at the very least.
The Shure black vinyl mic pouch is a great place to store the mic and it's contents. It's in great physical condition and the zipper works great. It will help keep the wear off the mic. A great older accessory really.
Mic is an easy 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 physically speaking. The real beauty is the sound it still produces.
This mic will make a nice addition to your mic arsenal.
