The Input control functions like a volume control before the circuit. It attenuates the guitar signal and directs it to the fuzz section. It also affects the circuit's input impedance, making it useful when combining with various effects. A matching impedance results in a higher response.

This is especially effective when using a wah pedal before the Katzenkonig. Many fuzz pedals, due to their low input impedance, narrow the sweep range of a wah pedal placed before them. Try connecting a wah pedal to the Katzenkonig and experiment with the Input control. At maximum Input, many wah pedals will barely produce a "wah" sound, but you'll notice the effect as you lower the Input. Set it to the response that sounds best to you.

The Gain control is more intuitive. Move it up or down to find what sounds good. Also, don't be afraid to "lower" the Katzenkonig's Gain. This control is tuned to produce a pleasing sound even at low settings. The Gain control produces distortion when above 12 o'clock, and a stronger fuzz character when lowered.

The Filter control is located at the final stage of the circuit, after the fuzz section. It controls the overall tone of the Katzenkonig. This control is an evolution of the Rat Distortion's Filter control; turning it clockwise makes the sound darker and creamier, while turning it counterclockwise makes the sound brighter. The sweet spot is generally around 12 o'clock, but experiment with a wide range of settings to find the tone you want.

The Volume control allows for a wide range of volume settings, from late-night practice to loud and proud stage performances.

The Katzenkonig is powered by a standard center-negative DC adapter or a 9V battery.

The adapter supports a range of DC 9V to DC 18V.

Battery power results in a slightly softer response to picking.

Using an adapter with a higher voltage produces a louder, different tone.
