Product Description

Ngombe doko knife from Congo DRC. Old and used part over 50 years old. Delivered on base.

The Ngombe are a Bantu population of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They live mainly in the Province of Équateur, that is to say in the northwest of the country.

The life of these “water people” is closely linked to that of the Congo River. They practice fishing, agriculture on the banks and trade upstream or downstream.

The Ngombe are often assimilated to the Bangala, the name given to all the inhabitants bordering the Equator river, of which they form one of the majority groups.

It is difficult to say how these weapons evolved, it may be that they originated from throwing knives.
Most of the people present in the region during colonization came from the north, so they were originally from the savannah regions, where throwing knives were used.
Their movements pushed them towards woodlands and jungles, where throwing knives could not be used due to obstacles.
We can therefore consider this utilitarian metamorphosis having been adapted to their environment into sickle-type weapons or tools. Their length generally varies from 30 cm to 1 meter and more.
We can find more or less curved shapes, with a curved tip, an arc and even an inverted S. The tip often has an enlarged part, sometimes perforated. The entire outline of this part as well as the interior are sharpened.
You should also know that this type of weapon does not have a scabbard.
