The Provisional Government of Tuscany commissioned the production of copper 1, 2 and 5 centesimi coins from Heaton's Mint in Birmingham. All these coins bear the date 1859, but were struck in 1860.
This coin appears as "Tuscany C#83" or "Emilia KM#6" on some editions of the World Coin Catalog, but both refer to this same coin. To add to the confusion, at the time the provisional governments of Tuscany and parts of the Papal States are also collectively referred to as the United Provinces of Central Italy before they joined with the Kingdom of Sardinia to form the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
