1972 International Scout II – OEM+ Build #39

Well… here she is.

-

Without question, the nicest Scout I’ve built to date. And considering this is my 39th Scout build, that’s saying something. I genuinely feel like I hit it out of the park with this one. This isn’t just another restored Scout — it’s a unicorn. The kind of build that stops people mid-sentence at gas stations and keeps them staring after the light turns green.

-

This Scout was built the same way I build everything: obsessive attention to detail, zero shortcuts, and an unhealthy amount of pride in doing things correctly the first time. Every corner of this truck was touched. Every finish, every fastener, every material choice, every texture, every line of the build was thought through with intention.

-

Over 1,000 hours went into bringing this truck back to life — and not just “restored” life. Refined life. Modernized without losing its soul. Vintage without feeling outdated. Rugged without sacrificing comfort.

-

The end result is something that feels like a luxury off-road time capsule from another era.

-

Let’s break it down.

-

The Highlights First

-

-

This Scout keeps the character everybody wants… while fixing the things nobody misses from the 1970s.

Exterior

-

2-Door • 100” Wheelbase • Original Un-Cut Steel • Original IH Glass

-

The exterior was built to look clean, timeless, and aggressive without trying too hard. Nothing cartoonish. Nothing overdone. Just a properly refined Scout with presence.

-

-

The paint has depth. The kind that changes under different lighting and makes the body lines stand out in a way photos honestly struggle to capture.

-

-

Lighting was upgraded throughout while still keeping the truck tasteful and period-correct looking.

-

-

One of the coolest features on the truck:

-

-

It converts from fully enclosed… to safari mode… to full convertible in literally seconds. Completely changes the personality of the truck whenever you want.

-

Additional exterior details:

-

-

Every exterior angle of this Scout feels intentional. It looks clean and upscale from ten feet away — but the closer you get, the more detail you notice.

Powertrain

-

Matching Numbers Original 345ci V8 • Original 727 Automatic • Original Dana 20/44 Axles & Lockers

-

Mechanically, this truck was built to be driven. Not trailered around pretending to be functional.

-

It starts easily. Idles correctly. Cruises comfortably at highway speed. Stops confidently. Tracks straight. Runs cool. Drives the way a sorted classic should.

-

Suspension and driveline:

-

-

The stance is exactly right. Aggressive without looking goofy. Functional without sacrificing drivability.

Interior

-

Original Un-Cut Dash • Seating for Four Adults

-

The interior is where this Scout separates itself from most builds on the market.

-

It doesn’t feel like an old farm truck anymore. It feels upscale, finished, insulated, and genuinely comfortable while still keeping the soul of a vintage 4x4.

-

-

Matching materials continue throughout the cabin:

-

-

The cab was fully insulated using Dynamat-style heat dissipating and noise reduction material throughout.

Overall

-

There’s honestly too much to list.

-

The details on this build go far beyond what photos can explain. I have a full digital Dropbox archive with hundreds of photos and over 50 videos documenting the restoration, assembly process, parts, finishes, and final walkarounds.

-

This build came together because of obsessive attention to small details. The colors complement each other perfectly. The exterior has a clean, refined, modern luxury off-road presence while still looking unmistakably vintage.

-

The interior is plush, comfortable, insulated, and thoughtfully upgraded for modern usability.

-

And the entire truck still feels authentic.

-

It comes fully documented with:

-

-

This is not a project.
This is not somebody’s unfinished dream.
And this is not a slapped together auction build hiding under shiny paint.

-

This is one of the most complete Scout packages on the market today.

-

It can be:

-

-

Wherever it goes, it gets attention.

-

A lot of it.
