1972 International Scout II – OEM+
Build #39
Well… here she is.
-
Without question, the nicest Scout I’ve built to date. And considering
this is my 39th Scout build, that’s saying something. I genuinely feel like I
hit it out of the park with this one. This isn’t just another restored Scout —
it’s a unicorn. The kind of build that stops people mid-sentence at gas
stations and keeps them staring after the light turns green.
-
This Scout was built the same way I build everything: obsessive attention
to detail, zero shortcuts, and an unhealthy amount of pride in doing things
correctly the first time. Every corner of this truck was touched. Every finish,
every fastener, every material choice, every texture, every line of the build
was thought through with intention.
-
Over 1,000 hours went into bringing this truck back to life — and not
just “restored” life. Refined life. Modernized without losing its soul. Vintage
without feeling outdated. Rugged without sacrificing comfort.
-
The end result is something that feels like a luxury off-road time
capsule from another era.
-
Let’s break it down.
-
The Highlights First
-
- 1972 model year — one of the rare
pre-SMOG years. No emissions headaches. Even in California.
- Automatic transmission — because
cruising a classic should actually be enjoyable. No fighting a heavy
50-year-old clutch in traffic.
- True 4x4 — not a 2WD poser. This
thing is fully capable whether it’s date night, Cars and Coffee, or a
mountain trail weekend.
- Original matching numbers 345ci
V8 powertrain — the desirable big V8. Not the underpowered 304. Definitely
not the inline-6.
- True Scout II — not the stretched
Traveler or the Terra. Proper proportions. Factory un-cut body.
- Modernized the right way —
Grade-8 hardware throughout, LED lighting, Bluetooth audio streaming, Air
Conditioning, Dynamat insulation, plush loop carpet, and diamond stitched
deerskin leather interior.
-
This Scout keeps the character everybody wants… while fixing the things
nobody misses from the 1970s.
Exterior
-
2-Door • 100” Wheelbase • Original
Un-Cut Steel • Original IH Glass
-
The exterior was built to look clean, timeless, and aggressive without
trying too hard. Nothing cartoonish. Nothing overdone. Just a properly refined
Scout with presence.
-
- Fresh Summit White paint laid
down with FIVE heavy topcoats.
- Wet sanded with 1k / 2k / 3k
grit.
- Professionally cut, buffed, and
finished with a full 2-step paint correction polish.
-
The paint has depth. The kind that changes under different lighting and
makes the body lines stand out in a way photos honestly struggle to capture.
-
- Satin Black powder coated door
handles, locks, badges, and emblems.
- LED tinted side markers.
- Uni-Shine black housing LED
projector HID headlights.
- IHP headlight bezels.

black mesh grille.

and period-correct looking.
-

buckets.
- LED running, turn, brake, and
reverse lights.
- Black zinc hardware throughout.
-
One of the coolest features on the truck:
-
- Softtopper soft top system.
-
It converts from fully enclosed… to safari mode… to full convertible in
literally seconds. Completely changes the personality of the truck whenever you
want.
-

- Bushwacker fender flares.
- Lower grit armor protection to

Rallye stripes.
-
Every exterior angle of this Scout feels intentional. It looks clean and
upscale from ten feet away — but the closer you get, the more detail you
notice.

Overall
-
There’s honestly too much to list.

The details on this build go far beyond what photos can explain. I have a
full digital Dropbox archive with hundreds of photos and over 50 videos
documenting the restoration, assembly process, parts, finishes, and final
walkarounds.
-
This build came together because of obsessive attention to small details.
The colors complement each other perfectly. The exterior has a clean, refined,
modern luxury off-road presence while still looking unmistakably vintage.
-
The interior is plush, comfortable, insulated, and thoughtfully upgraded
for modern usability.
-
And the entire truck still feels authentic.
-
It comes fully documented with:
-
- Hundreds of receipts.
- Invoices.
- Organized work orders.
- Original service manuals.
- Instruction manuals.
- Multiple crates of spare, used,
and new parts.
-
This is not a project.
This is not somebody’s unfinished dream.
And this is not a slapped together auction build hiding under shiny paint.
-
This is one of the most complete Scout packages on the market today.
-
It can be:
-
- a daily driver,
- a weekend family cruiser,
- a Cars and Coffee head-turner,
- an off-road toy,
- or a centerpiece in a serious
collection.
-
Wherever it goes, it gets attention.
-
A lot of it.
FAQ
-
Yes:
-
- It fits in a standard 7’ garage
door with room to spare.
- It comfortably cruises at 70+ mph
modern traffic speeds.
- It stops better than most classic
vehicles.
- It absolutely feels like stepping
into a 50+ year old time capsule — just smoother, quieter, and more
refined.
- It still has some cab noise. It’s
a vintage body-on-frame 4x4, not an EV spaceship.
- The wipers are included in the
crates. (It doesn’t rain much here in Arizona.)
- It runs on normal pump gas with a
19-gallon tank. I personally run 90+ octane.
- It is a rare pre-smog truck. No
emissions needed.
-
No:
-
- There is no hard top included.
They bolt on easily with six bolts per side.
- I will not LS swap it. This is a matching
number, Scout. If you want 700 horsepower, buy a Corvette.
- I will not hold it. These builds
move quickly and I’m already deep into the next one.
- You cannot keep the trophies.
