This is a lovely presentation set of silverplated flatware in a beautiful box. There is a plaque on the inside that reads, "With best wishes from the directors of HOMO Ltd. 16th April 1938." It appears that HOMO was a company that made number plates in Sheffield. Although not originally found with the box, a key that works with the lock is also included. Closing the lid locks the bottom drawer.
The set is 2 dinner forks shy of being a full service for eight 9-piece settings.
The top section of the box contains the fish set portion of the collection. The handles are celluloid. The pieces are marked "Gladwin Ltd. Sheffield." The forks and fish knives have hallmarked sterling bands on the handles. They have a crown, a lion passant, and the date mark "u" that indicates the set was made in 1937.
The pieces include:
8 Dinner knives
8 Butter knives
8 Fish knives
8 Fish forks
3 piece carving set
The bottom drawer contains the "rattail" silverplated utensils in the set. They are all marked "Gladwin Ltd. Embassy A1 Plate."
Included are:
8 Salad forks
6 Dinner forks
8 Round soup spoons
8 Tea spoons
8 Demitasse spoons
4 Serving spoons (8 1/4")
Everything is in very nice condition. The teaspoons and demitasse spoons show signs of minor plating loss on the backs (last pic.)
It is super classy!
