Limoges T&V Cabinet Plate 10.5" Artist ESD Wild Roses Pink Green Gold 1892-1907
DESCRIPTION: This superb quality china has colors that are bold & bright. This was hand painted by an artist on a blank of fine china that is both scalloped & has molded and reticulated handles. The pink & orange wild rose blooms are exquisitely painted with their two-tone orange color & their white highlights at the center of the blooms. There are darker green leaves and light grey ghost leaves to give depth to the design. The rim has bold, solid gold paint that follows the scalloping and is solid on the molded reticulated handles. The scrollwork gold was applied after the floral painting. This is truly a magnificent piece of art.
CONDITION: While this cabinet plate is classified as used, the condition is superb. There is one tiny nick on the back of one of the points on the handles. This is on the back and is not really visible; certainly not from the front. See the last photo. We find no other nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the gold or paint and no crazing. On the gold scrollwork across the flowers, there are very slight scratches in that gold. This is certainly age appropriate wear for an antique plate that is over 120 years old. Look in the photos to see this.
DIMENSIONS: The plate handle to handle is 10 1/2" and has a diameter of 9 1/4" with a height of 1 1/8" at the handles. The side height is 5/8".
HISTORY/MARKS: Begun in the 1850's, Vogt & Dose became Tressemann & Vogt when Emillien Tressemann joined the company in 1882. This was essentially a decorating studio which began manufacturing their own china in 1891 in Limoges, France. The company continued until it was dissolved due to the retirement of Tressemann in 1907. From 1907-1919, the company operated as Porcelain Gustave Vogt under the direction of Gustave Vogt, John Vogt's son, and continued to use the T&V mark. T&V is well known for its quality whiteware and boldly decorated hand paintings. The mark used on this item is the manufacturers's mark in black referenced in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #5a used 1892-1907. So the circa is 1892-1907.
