Molded Rectangular Frame: The flat, molded wooden borders splined together around the glass are highly characteristic of rural New England or Great Britain regional design during the period.
Simplicity: While high-end city mirrors utilized elaborate gilding or walnut veneers, country/provincial variants relied on simple native woods like pine, cherry, or maple finished with a dark pigment or varnish.
* Physical carpentry tells a story of genuine age and provincial craftsmanship:
Hand-Planed Backboard: The central backing board is a single thick piece of timber showing vertical wood grain with heavy, uneven texturing. This is consistent with an 18th-century carpenter using a hand-plane rather than a modern machine saw.
Oxidization and Color Variation: The deep, rich, reddish-cinnamon color of the exposed central pine wood contrasted with the heavily blackened, oxidized edges shows centuries of exposure to air and natural soot.
