Up for bid is Halite (salt) specimen from the Mount Gunson Copper mines in South Australia. The Halite crystals on the top of the specimen fluoresce bright Oorange under SW and MW UV but are best under SW (picture under SW UV) , The material on the bottom of the specimen is nonfluorescent. This specimen most likely came from the settling ponds, or the flooded open pit, of the West Lagoon mine on the shores of Pernatty Lagoon. The daylight green color is due to the presence of copper based minerals from the mining operation. This specimen came from the Don Newsom collection. Don obtained the specimen from Charles Ward on 8/31/1999.

Please note that Halite is hygroscopic. This means it can draw moisture out the air which can damage the specimen. Most of the damaged Halite specimens I have seen were stored in paper or cardboard. The paper products hold the moisture against the specimens which can cause the halite to dissolve. Don Newsome stored this specimen wrapped in plastic for over 25 years with no problems.
