This is a circa 1920s-30s STORM KING 'smudge pot' roadway flare. These are not considered railroad items per se, but the style and manufacturer type is as close as the eBay categories allow me to get. This pot has been completely restored and is ready for display or use. The replacement wick is 'new old stock' (never fired) and the burner is coated with high-heat paint; the body coated in several layers of primer and Rust-Oleum 'safety red' as per the specs of the original. This particular model has a weighted base (about five pounds total) and is designed to stay upright in extreme conditions. These are *for outdoor use only* if you choose to fire it up, of course, and are excellent for camps, patio parties, and historic demonstrations or recreation photography. Kerosene is the common fuel used in these, but I've personally used citronella to keep bugs away, tiki torch fuel, and even paraffin lamp oil (all still produce smoke - these are definitely not efficient-burning), but they will stay lit for days at a time, even in the rain! I remember these in service as a kid when our country road would flood in the springtime. Please send me a note with any questions! Shipping will be by USPS Ground Advantage w/insurance and tracking. I have other railway items available, including other kerosene lamps and lantern...always OK to combine shipping. Thanks, RRTX
