The Riga Ballet School is a specialized choreographic school, a structural unit of the National Secondary School of Arts (NVM) of the Latvian Academy of Sciences. It is located at Kalnciema Street 12 in Riga.
In 1932, the Latvian National Opera Ballet School was founded, which after the occupation of Latvia in 1940 was renamed the Ballet School of the Latvian SSR State Opera and Ballet Theatre, in 1941 the Riga Opera Ballet School, and in 1945 the Ballet Studio of the Latvian SSR Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 1948, the Riga Choreographic Secondary School was founded, where general education subjects were studied together with children from the Emīls Dārziņš Music Secondary School in the premises of the Latvian State Conservatory. Ballet classes were held in the Third Balcony Hall of the Opera, at Smilšu Street 8 and Mārstaļu Street. In 1973, the school moved to a new building at Kalnciema Street 10/12
