North Side of State Street
Forman Brothers Store, Bowling Alley
Erie, Pennsylvania
This antique photo dates around 1895-1899 and shows the north side of State Street. I believe the photo was taken at the intersection of what is now 11th and State Streets. Above the street car there's a sign painted on the side of a building. This would be the east side of the Forman Brothers building that still stands at 1013-1015 State Street. Two buildings to the right of Forman Brothers is a building with a sign across the front that reads BOWLING ALLEY. The street number (1027) is visible above that door. The two-story building to the far right may be where 1031-1033 State Street now stands.
The image captures a small parade with an American flag and another flag with the word VOLUNTEERS visible. Three or four women in the parade have tambourines. A man is carrying a large drum.
The photo measure 3 3/8" x 3 3/8" and is mounted to a 5" x 5" card. It's in nice condition with some discoloration, marks, and stains. Some wear to the corners and edges.
