FRENCH SILVER GILT BRONZE BUST AFTER AUGUST-JOSEPH CARRIER RENAISSANCE "RAPHAEL"

Store Closing Sale !

Offered is a bronze portrait bust of artist Raphael after French artist Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887). He is considered one of the greatest artists in European history.

Carrier-Belleuse is the name used by this sculptor born Carrier de Belleuse. His early works were signed "A. Carrier." It is likely a work executed shortly after Carrier-Belleuse's death in 1887, a time when many of these busts were cast by the foundry Pinedo upon request of his widow. There is no foundry mark on this sculpture - not a typical for his works, but the execution is excellent.

Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse was one of the most celebrated sculptors of the nineteenth century. Carrier was a founding member of the prestigious Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. His monumental works can be found all over France and in major capitols throughout the world, including his large depiction of Abundance, on the south façade of the Louvre Museum.

Bust is signed by the artist and features intricate details showcasing the sculpture's craftsmanship. Measuring 9 1/4 inches in height. Wooden base.

This sculpture is a unique and elegant piece that would make a striking addition to any art collection.

Sculpture is not available online.
