For your consideration a vintage impressionist plein air landscape oil painting by J.W. Gembala captures the essence of post-war American art with its medium size and framed presentation.

About the artist:

J. W. Gembala (John "Jack" Walter Gembala, 1906–1983) was a mid-20th-century American landscape painter best known for his oil paintings of the American Southwest and the Indiana Sand Dunes. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, he later retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where much of his later work was produced.

About the piece:

The frame size measures approximately 21.25 inches tall by 27.25 inches long. The frame is in good vintage condition with some signs of distress consistent with age. The piece still displays well in my opinion.

Painted on artist panel measuring 24 inches long by 18 inches tall. The piece is signed lower right. Overall great condition. Notice below the signature one blemish (black smudge) could likely be cleaned.

Subject of the piece:

Color Palette: The warm, golden hues of the field and the soft blue sky are consistent with the "luminous" and "earthy" tones often found in Southwestern landscape art.

Subject Matter: The rustic, weathered shed (resembling a simple ranch structure or outbuilding) and the solitary, rounded tree in an expansive field are common motifs in regional Western and Southwestern styles.
