This was the last year that the Nickel dollar was used in circulation, before the notorious loonie took it's place in 1987
Yes there was an 1987 Nickel dollar, but it was not released individually, - only in mint sets

Canadian Nickel Dollars

First of all – these coins are great gifts for people born or married in these years. 1968-1986

- unlike the loonies and toonies they were minted in low quantities and were quite unpopular because of their size and weight.

(Most Canadians have never even seen one.)

Collectible?

Quality and rarity are 2 of the most important reasons collectibles become valuable.

Because of the low mintage numbers and very little usage, the few coins that exist are usually in quite good condition.

Shipping:

I DO NOT drive to town each day (8kms.)

1/ My shipments go to a mail box, which is picked up by the mailman

2/ they arrive at our post office in the late afternoon

3/ then they are sorted (hopefully) the next day

4/ then they are taken to Ottawa for auto-sorting

5/ so, this ‘detour’ adds a few days to west bound mail
