!!!!! I'm not an advanced user. But i Put new 9V batteries in it. Did a couple test trials by burying some metal around four inches in the ground and it's far as I can tell, everything seemed to work, it picked up the metal.!!!!!

The one of the 9V battery contacts may need a bit of metal wedged in to make contact.
