(CAE) This is pretty rate find. It's Americana and Texas history at its finest. It's from Salinas' Department Store in Laredo, Texas. It was located on Salinas Avenue and closed It's doors in the early 1950s. The information is imprinted on the leather sheathing.

These riding crops were also called swagger sticks. The piece actually conceals a hidden spike made out of ferrous metal with what appears to be a chrome or nickel finish.  I believe the leather on the sheath is wrapped around a cylinder of cork. The leather at the top of that has separated some. It's really the only area that shows wear.  Please take a good look at the pictures. The nubbed leather wrapped end is beautifully weaved. It's approximately 17" long not including the looped end, and the spike itself is about 12 ".The complete work of this is pretty awesome.   It has a little bit of everything going for it. Thanks for your interest.
