This bank chartered on March 24, 1881 as “The Atlantic City National Bank, Atlantic City, New Jersey”. The Bank went into Receivership on January 30,1933 as a result of the Depression. The bank issued 58,830 small size Nationals from 1929 until January 30, 1933 when the bank failed.
Atlantic City was a was a five bank town, with all five National Banks issuing Series 1929 small size National Banknotes. This Bank was a little more common as far as rarity with three of the Atlantic City Banks being rarer and the only one being more common.
The note has decent margins on all four sides as well as the back of the note! The note retains some brightness but has underlying dirt and soil on both sides from years of circulation. I don’t see any rips, tears or pinholes in this note. I would grade this note as a solid Very Fine or a bit nicer. Please look at the scans carefully and judge the grade and quality of this note for yourself. The Kelly Census shows 31 small size notes reported on this bank. There are 7 - $5.00 Type -1’s and 24 - 10.00 Type-1’s. This note is new to the census, the new owner can report it if they so choose.
This note would make a fine addition to any New Jersey State banknote collection. Atlantic City Nationals are always in high demand! The bank was located in Atlantic County, so it should appeal to those collecting that County and its surrounding areas. This note should also appeal to anyone who vacationed in Atlantic City, enjoying its lovely Beaches, its Gambling Casinos and World Class Entertainment. Don’t let this note get away!
