About the Model
About the Prototype

The DB Class 220, originally known as the V 200.0, was West Germany's first series-production diesel-hydraulic express locomotive. Designed by Krauss-Maffei, five prototypes were built in 1953–54, with full production running from 1956 onward. Powered by twin diesel engines producing a combined 1,618 kW with a top speed of 140 km/h, the V 200 became the face of modernization on the Deutsche Bundesbahn. The V 200.0 sub-series was officially redesignated BR 220 under the 1968 DB computerized numbering scheme. Beloved for its sleek, streamlined design, the class served DB in express passenger and freight duties until withdrawal in the early 1980s.
