This letter was sent two days prior to this aircraft carrier (USS Randolph) forcing a USSR sub to the surface during the Cuban Missile Crisis. This action almost resulted in the submarine firing a nuclear missile, possibly triggering a nuclear war. The letter states that the ship is waiting for orders off the coast of Haiti. Those orders would obviously be to head to the US blockade of Cuba. On the back of the second page is printed a map which the writer has marked with all the places that the ship has been since leaving Newport Va. The writer has also written the ship position and circled it. A very interesting historical document.
