Rahne Sinclair, Illyana Rasputin, Sam Guthrie and Roberto da Costa are four young mutants held in an isolated hospital for psychiatric monitoring. Dr. Cecilia Reyes, who considers these teenagers dangerous to themselves and to society, monitors them carefully and strives to teach them to master their powers. When a newcomer, Danielle Moonstar, joins the establishment, strange events appear. The young mutants are struck by hallucinations and flashbacks, and their new abilities - and their friendship - are violently tested in a frantic fight for survival.
