Royal Doulton Set 6 Salad Plates 8" SQ Floretta D4782 Embossed Flowers 1928-1929

A beautiful  ROYAL DOULTON Set of 6 SALAD PLATES, FLORETTA or JESSAMY pattern #D4782 with EMBOSSED FLOWERS & FRUIT on CREAM w/WARM YELLOW Trim, Circa 1928-1929 from Burslem, Staffordshire, England

DESCRIPTION:  This superb quality earthenware has colors that are bright and vivid on a cream background.  This has warm yellow trim on the rims.  The colors used are green, yellow, magenta, blue and black on cream with green trim.  All of the flowers and fruit are hand painted on the embossed mold.  The pattern is so pretty with the flowers, fruits and vivid trim.  We have 4 plates that list the pattern name as Floretta and 2 that list the pattern name as Jessamy.  All plates have the same pattern number D4782.  As you look closely at the plates, you can see slight differences in the hand painting.  This is part of the beauty of hand painted items.

CONDITION:  While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb.  The only exception is that there is an old repair across the corner of 1 plate.  This was repaired very carefully by a previous owner.  There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings or hairlines.  Three of the plates have slight crazing & 2 of those show minor browning.  The crazing & browning are very common in earthenware of this era.   There is no wear to the colors including the bold warn yellow trim on the rims.  Study the photos to see the condition of this beautiful set of plates for yourself.

DIMENSIONS:
The scalloped rimmed square salad plates are 8" with a measurement of 9" corner to corner and a height of 3/4".

HISTORY/MARKS:    Henry & James Doulton purchased an interest in Pinder, Bourne & Co. in 1877.  Pinder left the business in 1882 and it was reconstituted under the name Doulton & Co., Burslem.  The Royal Warrant and the right to use “Royal” in the name of its products were granted in 1901.  The business continued under Henry Lewis Doulton from 1897-1919 and then under his grandson, Lewis Eric Hooper, who remained chairman until 1955.  The mark used on these plates is cited as mark #1333 in Geoffrey A. Godden’s Encyclopeadia of British Pottery & Porcelain Marks and was used 1902-1929.  The registration number is recorded as Rd No #741638 that corresponds to 1928,  This makes the circa for this set to be 1928-1929.
