New old stock: Lion Brand Chrome Steel Made in Sheffield by John Bedford & Sons

Lion trademark stamped near the tang with BEDFORD Made in England.

Parallel. Overall width 34.5mm, thickness 9mm (tapered towards tip), effective cut length 310mm, overall length 435mm (all sizes approximate).  Hand files are cut on both faces and one edge, the other edge is ‘safe’ i.e. plain and uncut to enable filing into a corner.

We stocked many brands of file to cater for customers preferences. Mainly, Bedford in the 1950’s (Spear ‘Spear & Jackson’), Nicholson, Oberg (now Bacho), Nicholson, Stubbs (M brand) and in the 1990’s Tomé Feteira (when most of the British firms had closed down and we found out who made the file blanks)

Files were traditionally measured from the tip to the tang, not overall. Cross cut is the normal criss cross pattern (saw files are single cut).

Bastard cut is the most useful grade to remove metal swiftly but difficult to leave a 'smooth' finish. 

NOTE: Files are supplied dry and will very quickly rust even when handled with sweaty hands. Never oil or grease a file as it will collect the filings which will prevent the file from cutting. 

DESPATCH & DELIVERY TIMES: Although I have stated the orders will be dispatched within 2 days they are nearly always sent the same day or the day after ordering; for confirmation see the feedback comments for speed of dispatch/delivery. We always confirm posting and that is when the 'clock starts ticking' for delivery time but please bear in mind that the e-Bay estimated delivery times are, just that, 'estimated'. Delivery is entirely dependent on Royal Mail (or a Carrier for long or heavier items) which are usually excellent, but if 'time is of the essence' please let us know prior to ordering and we can try to arrange quicker delivery providing that you don't mind paying for the additional costs.

RETURNS: It's important that you are happy with your purchase. If you're not, just return the item and it will be exchanged or a refund will be made. It's also important that returned items are in the best possible condition, so please take reasonable care of them. The full cost of the delivery charge will be reimbursed provided the full order is returned. Your customer rights entitle you to a full refund if you request one within 7 working days of receipt. This includes any delivery charge, but excludes the cost of returning the item
